The production
The authentic Marseille soap is made in a cauldron, this saponification process includes steps:
1st step: The mashing. The soda lye and the vegetable fat are heated and brought to a boil in the cauldron.
2nd step: The release. This operation consists of adding a very dense salted lye to drag the excess soda to the bottom of the cauldron.
3rd step: Cooking. Transforms fatty substances into soap by adding concentrated soda lye.
4th step: Washing. The soap paste is refined by washes.
5th step: Liquidation. A final wash with clean water brings the soap to its natural state. Supernate then the smooth and pure soap which makes its reputation. These different operations take approximately between a week to ten days.
Virtues
Gentle, natural and effective: Non-aggressive for the skin. Recommended by the medical profession for people with skin problems. Recommended for washing delicate linen (lace, silk, baby linen).
Environmentally friendly: The majority of soaps, commercial shower gels, are made from animal materials or derived from petroleum products. Marseille Soap only contains vegetable oils: olive oil and coconut oil. Containing neither phosphate nor synthetic product, it thus contributes to the preservation of our environment.
Economical: it lasts twice as long as ordinary soap. Its longevity makes it an economical product.
Against cramps: Placed at the bottom of the bed, it is very effective in preventing cramps and rheumatism.
As Toothpaste: Used as toothpaste, it is very good for the gums.
As a stain remover: a stain rubbed in before washing with a slightly damp soap will be treated more effectively than with all synthetic detergents (ideal for shirt collars).
