BAMBOO TEA WHISK

Traditional and essential instrument in the preparation of matcha, the chasen (matcha whisk) is a piece cut from a single piece of bamboo, to whip green tea powder in a small amount of water. By a rapid back and forth movement, the tea thus beaten takes the form of a fine emulsion such as found in the Japanese tea ceremony: chanoyu.
